That is what I have been thinking about. Like the previous weeks, the little acts of self compassion, getting to sleep, expressing gratitude, eating well, exercising… they all add up. They are the roots that keep us upright and well fed for life’s journey. One more root to add is: friendship and connection.
The challenge this week is to invite someone to do something, live and in person. This could be a hike, walk, coffee, a concert, dinner, bowling… anything! We all need connection, we all need to be invited and sometimes that all begins with being the INVITOR! Don’t wait around. If one person says they can’t, have a couple of back ups.
We are a lonely people these days because our screens make us think we are connected, but it isn’t REAL, it serves a purpose but it lacks DEPTH and ENERGY. So use your screen to reach out, but then get together, for real, face to face. That said, if you choose to call someone and listen to their voice or facetime with them, because they don’t live in your town. That works too, it is ACTIVE human interaction that can go deep.
If you are in a situation where you just don’t have access to people in your town or on the phone, don’t worry, go somewhere like a coffee shop or grocery store, briefly interact with someone by making a joke or commenting on the weather…. research show that all interactions, even the small ones, give us a much needed social boost.
So get together, interact, talk to people, take a chance… it will not just help you to achieve balance and joy, it will help those you invite and interact with too!
